Amicus is No Friend of Mine
Solomon
Overall Rating:

[11/18/2009]  Amicus means friend and is often used to refer to an outside party to litigation who files an appellate brief at the request of a litigant but usually at the request of the court. Amicus Attorney software is inappropriately labeled. It has been no friend to my practice since I made the misguided decision to purchase and implement it in my firm. First, the software is unstable and rarely functions: critical features that were selling points will not work such as the offline feature, the quickbooks interface feature, the document management feature, the email integration feature. Second, the program is very difficult to learn and lacks an intuitive end-user oriented layout. Finally, and most importantly, technical support is the worst I have ever experienced. The best illustration of how badly Amicus Attorney's tech support fall short of anything resembling consumer expectations is the following. I once asked tech support for help...they remotely contected to my computer...the tech support person made some configuration at my server that shut it down...(now the worst part)...the tech support person abruptly stated he'll have the next level of tech support to call me and then he hung up the phone. My server was shut down for a week while I retained an outside IT company to come in and restor it. Nope! Amicus Attorney is no friend of mine.

Amicus Accounting (with Attorney) - Error prone, poor design
Legal Bookkeeper
Overall Rating:

[11/10/2009]  A poor performer, badly designed and faulty code. Is a set of 2 disparate software packages "linked". Errors out on critical functions; the data link fails w/o notice; badly modeled data structure confuses “client" with a "client matter"; Support is unavailable w/o fixed contract amt - can't pay by the hour. Simply unacceptable quality and dangerously unreliable. Have spent hours dealing with Amicus failures and poorly designed features. Will NOT replace QuickBooks, so have to double-enter A/R.

Amicus - UGH!
acm7373
Overall Rating:

[09/29/2009]  Amicus did nothing to improve our time management. It was extremely cumbersome and duplicated contacts over and over again. Help features were very difficult to understand. Simple issues took over an hour to solve with online help. Amicus does not offer free training. We have since dumped it and are utilizing Microsoft Outlook Business Manager as a client manager and Quickbooks Pro 2009 as billing.

Very Unhappy Attorney

Overall Rating:

[03/17/2009]  I tried both the Amicus Attorney 2009 and Amicus Accounting free trial offers. After having extreme difficulties attempting to set up Attorney, I decided not to purchase it. I did purchase Accounting though, and what a mistake it was. It looks great and the basic functions perform well, but, the other comments about Amicus programs not being intuitive and customer service being the worst imaginable were the rule rather than the exception. I have finally become so fed up with Accounting I am abandoning it altogether and going back to my ever efficient QuickBooks.

[02/28/2009]  This is by far the worst software product I have ever used. I echo all the problems listed above, the tech support is the worst I have ever experienced. It may work for several days and then is non-function. We have been down for 2 months and Amicus has no suggestions on how to get it to integrate.

Overall Rating:

[01/26/2009]  I haven't used any other Attorney's program, but I would say I'm very experienced with many other programs (besides being a programmer myself).

Pros: it's pretty and it works well most of the time. It's also a very well built and comprehensive program.

Cons: This is not a very intuitive program at all. Tech Support never solved any of my problems yet. Not forgiving at all with data entry mistakes

One of my main gripes is that when you sign up they give you 5 free tech support sessions which you have to use within a few months (I believe it was 3 or 6 months). The program's not exactly compatible with Vista, so they had to remotely access my computer and install some files. This should not have counted against my 5 free sessions since it's the fault of the program itself. Now that I have no more tech support sessions, if I have to format or install the program onto another computer, I'm going to have to pay for tech support service plans just to get it up and running again.

Amicus Attorney/Gavel & Gown Customer Service
-Disgrunteld Attorney
Overall Rating:

[11/25/2008]  Great product but it has the worst customer service of any product I've ever owned. They've yet to return a service/tech call (several made over 1.5 years), their automated system won't recognize my account, and I can only reach a live person when calling sales.

Amicus X is zero
Bad fit with QuickBooks
Overall Rating:

[03/04/2006]  Having just read a "review" using QuickBooks 2002, it was obvious that no one actually reviews. I purchased Amicus X over a year ago (2004) because of the supposed "link" between Amicus and QuickBooks. It took several times the software cost in tech costs and weeks to make it work. This year QuickBooks shuts you down unless you upgrade to QuickBooks 2006. My tech person as well as Amicus X tech person (at my $500 cost) has again been working for a month trying to make the two interface as both advertise. It seems like we are trying to make two competing religions agree. No progress. Bad fit.

Promises, promises
Unhappy Lawyer
Overall Rating:

[08/23/2005]  I have found Gavel & Gown's customer service to be grudging at best, and dismissive in many cases -- they also claim it's some other company's software that's bad. I hired two different software support guys to work with G&G's customer support to get Amicus sync'ing with my palm pilot and QuickBooks. After hours and thousands of dollars spent, they have stopped sync'ing yet again. If I didn't have so much data locked up in Amicus, I'd definitely switch products.

Amicus Attorney and QuickBooks Premier 2004 - A Smart Solution
Another Satisfied Family Law Attorney
Overall Rating:

[07/07/2004]  I have been a user of both Amicus Attorney and QuickBooks for several years. I eagerly awaited the arrival of the link between the 2 products and I am happy to say that I was not disappointed. Amicus Attorney is a sole practitioner's time-saving dream: it organizes your daily activities in a beautiful, user-friendly application. The program looks like the way we practice law. With one touch of a button, you can transfer your time entries into QuickBooks and billing becomes a cinch. With QuickBooks, getting your billing statements out each month is equally effortless: with one touch of button you get professional looking statements with no fuss or worry- all with your time entries in them. I highly recommend this combination to anyone looking to organize their practice sensibly. Bravo, Intuit!

Tremendously helpful, not always reliable
Reasonably Satisfied AA and QB User
Overall Rating:

[10/30/2002]  Amicus Attorney is a superb application for organizing a law office or any business that has similar types of cases and clients. Our office is crazy over it! We've had it for three years. It is like Microsoft Outlook in that it has scheduling, to do's, phone contacts, etc., but more tailored to the types of activities lawyers perform and more mindful of the need to log the time spent on each phone call, e-mail, etc. The link between Amicus and one's Palm PDA is excellent and reliable.

Alas, Amicus is not always a reliable product, and as much as we love the utility of it in our practice we struggle to keep it running smoothly. Telephone support is expensive and the techies are hard to reach, but they work hard to help resolve a problem once you make contact.

The integration with QuickBooks is more of a kludge and needs to be better streamlined, but does work. QuickBooks itself is far more reliable, and flexible for billing different types of cases, than is Amicus.

[05/14/2002]  I am so impressed with the Amicus Attorney QuickBooks link, I am not sure what to write. I found this site quite by accident, and I knew I had to write something. Between the efficiency that Amicus has brought to my practice, and now the link with Amicus and QuickBooks, I have really streamlined the billing process in my office. I have no actual "bookkeeper", just a loyal, faithful legal assistant who helps me with billing. Her job has really been simplified by the link with QuickBooks. We no longer have the tedious process of billing, which used to take the better part of the month to get right. For two months now, our bills have been out by the 4th of the month - which is a first for my firm. I am so pleased with the link, I can see no reason to use any other software. If you are looking, stop here, this is an awesome solution!

QuickBooks and Amicus take the frustration out of making monthly billings
Matt
Overall Rating:

[05/02/2002]  This integration is very slick. It has made creating bills to send to my clients simple. I record my time in Amicus and then send it all over to QuickBooks with a couple of clicks. The data is the same in both spots so if I enter a new record in one, it is created in the other. Before using these two programs together, I had a very difficult and convoluted system for creating invoices for my clients. Now, QuickBooks and Amicus do it automatically. It's an excellent duo.

Fantastic Solution
Stubborn Attorney
Overall Rating:

[05/02/2002]  I started using Amicus Attorney about 2 years ago, and was very skeptical about this "case management" software thing. I had Outlook and was pretty happy with my system, but my partner saw this software at a trade show and basically forced me to look at it. Kicking and screaming, I went to the demo. Although I did not admit it at the time, I actually saw some things I liked during the demo. So, I very reluctantly agreed to the purchase, secretly thinking I may actually like it eventually. Was I ever blown over! This program does everything for me! I have never been more on top of my practice, and believe it or not, I think it is the best business decision I have ever made. Fast forward, two years, and my partner again comes to me, and says "Check this out!" and tells me about the link to QuickBooks. I, again, being the skeptical stubborn attorney that I am, was reluctant to try and fix something that was not broke. But of course, he convinced me. I have again been blown over. This link is just spectacular. Our time gets sent over when we post it and is ready to be billed. Our customers stay in line with our Amicus files without us having to do much of anything. I would highly recommend these two products!

Organized at Last!
Computer Accounting Professional
Overall Rating:

[05/02/2002]  Amicus Attorney in conjunction with QuickBooks 2002 has simplified the organization of our office. Using Amicus Attorney we can now completely track each project. Within the project, we have a list of all the associated people. Every telephone call incoming or outgoing is recorded, tracked to a project and easily retrievable and easily billable. All timesheets are tracked by timekeeper and project and include a value for the time. A Rolodex eliminates searching for phone numbers or names. And, all information needs to be entered only once. Amicus Attorney attaches entries wherever they're needed. A calendar module brings everything together eliminating forgotten appointments or missed deadlines. Amicus Attorney includes other enhancements for the computer savvy user such as document assembly and a library to store frequently used reference information. And, the Amicus Attorney link with QuickBooks 2002 even further eliminates the need to re-enter information. Our posted time is sent directly to QuickBooks 2002 where billing and recovery of client expenses is flawless. We're even able to customize our invoicing. We are very happy with our investment in both Amicus Attorney and QuickBooks 2002 and thoroughly recommend them.

Wow!
Family Law Attorney in Washington
Overall Rating:

[04/12/2002]  I have used Amicus Attorney linked with QuickBooks for several years now, and just recently upgraded to QuickBooks Premier 2002 to utilize the new link. I had one minor issue setting it up, and the tech support person from Amicus had me up and running in just a few minutes! I am so impressed with the integration between the two products. Amicus has revolutionized the way I practice law. I had no idea that a software program could work the way that I work, and Amicus fits that bill perfectly. Being able to access my client list, get any phone numbers I need, keep track of all my phone calls and messages, save e-mails I send or receive to the matter, organize my legal research, easily access my calendar (as well as my associates calendar), has made me a happier person. I am not, by any stretch of the imagination, a "computer person", and that is the beauty of Amicus. It is soooooo simple to use. Since I have been using Amicus, my billable time has increased by 20-30%. Now that my time entries get posted directly into QuickBooks and I can easily generate my bills, I am happier than I have ever been with the software I have chosen to use. The link with QuickBooks automatically updates my QuickBooks Customer list with any new matters I create within Amicus immediately. Also, each day all our users post their time for the day from within Amicus, and it waits in QuickBooks for our bookkeeper to bill our clients. I do not have to do anything else! I would highly recommend Amicus Attorney and QuickBooks. It will change your life!
