Amicus is No Friend of Mine
Solomon
Overall Rating:
[11/18/2009] Amicus means friend and is often used to refer to an outside party to litigation who files an appellate brief at the request of a litigant but usually at the request of the court. Amicus Attorney software is inappropriately labeled. It has been no friend to my practice since I made the misguided decision to purchase and implement it in my firm. First, the software is unstable and rarely functions: critical features that were selling points will not work such as the offline feature, the quickbooks interface feature, the document management feature, the email integration feature. Second, the program is very difficult to learn and lacks an intuitive end-user oriented layout. Finally, and most importantly, technical support is the worst I have ever experienced. The best illustration of how badly Amicus Attorney's tech support fall short of anything resembling consumer expectations is the following. I once asked tech support for help...they remotely contected to my computer...the tech support person made some configuration at my server that shut it down...(now the worst part)...the tech support person abruptly stated he'll have the next level of tech support to call me and then he hung up the phone. My server was shut down for a week while I retained an outside IT company to come in and restor it. Nope! Amicus Attorney is no friend of mine.

Overall Rating:
[11/10/2009] A poor performer, badly designed and faulty code. Is a set of 2 disparate software packages "linked". Errors out on critical functions; the data link fails w/o notice; badly modeled data structure confuses “client" with a "client matter"; Support is unavailable w/o fixed contract amt - can't pay by the hour. Simply unacceptable quality and dangerously unreliable. Have spent hours dealing with Amicus failures and poorly designed features. Will NOT replace QuickBooks, so have to double-enter A/R.

Overall Rating:
[09/29/2009] Amicus did nothing to improve our time management. It was extremely cumbersome and duplicated contacts over and over again. Help features were very difficult to understand. Simple issues took over an hour to solve with online help. Amicus does not offer free training. We have since dumped it and are utilizing Microsoft Outlook Business Manager as a client manager and Quickbooks Pro 2009 as billing.

Overall Rating:
[03/17/2009] I tried both the Amicus Attorney 2009 and Amicus Accounting free trial offers. After having extreme difficulties attempting to set up Attorney, I decided not to purchase it. I did purchase Accounting though, and what a mistake it was. It looks great and the basic functions perform well, but, the other comments about Amicus programs not being intuitive and customer service being the worst imaginable were the rule rather than the exception. I have finally become so fed up with Accounting I am abandoning it altogether and going back to my ever efficient QuickBooks.

[02/28/2009] This is by far the worst software product I have ever used. I echo all the problems listed above, the tech support is the worst I have ever experienced. It may work for several days and then is non-function. We have been down for 2 months and Amicus has no suggestions on how to get it to integrate.

[01/26/2009] I haven't used any other Attorney's program, but I would say I'm very experienced with many other programs (besides being a programmer myself).
Pros: it's pretty and it works well most of the time. It's also a very well built and comprehensive program.
Cons: This is not a very intuitive program at all. Tech Support never solved any of my problems yet. Not forgiving at all with data entry mistakes
One of my main gripes is that when you sign up they give you 5 free tech support sessions which you have to use within a few months (I believe it was 3 or 6 months). The program's not exactly compatible with Vista, so they had to remotely access my computer and install some files. This should not have counted against my 5 free sessions since it's the fault of the program itself. Now that I have no more tech support sessions, if I have to format or install the program onto another computer, I'm going to have to pay for tech support service plans just to get it up and running again.

[11/25/2008] Great product but it has the worst customer service of any product I've ever owned. They've yet to return a service/tech call (several made over 1.5 years), their automated system won't recognize my account, and I can only reach a live person when calling sales.
