When an item is rung up in QuickBooks Point of Sale using the receipt screen that requires age validation, a pop up on the screen notifies the cashier that a license must be scanned.
When the driver’s license is scanned, the operator is notified if the age of the purchaser is consistent with the items being purchased such as alcohol or tobacco. The sale of the restricted item will not be allowed to be processed without a validation.
If a driver’s license is not available or recognized by the scan, the software provides for a manual entry of the validation information into the validation reporting portion of the system.
Records of validation are recorded and time stamped. The validation number is also printed on the printed receipt and recorded in the comments field. A report allows for cross checking receipts against the recorded validations. The properly configured QuickBooks Point of Sale system records the name of the Point of Sale operator for each receipt.
Other features:
Different age requirements can be set for different restricted groups of items.
If multiple restricted items are on the same receipt, only one successful validation will be required.
Note: Receipts processed in 'simple view' allow for scanning and recording verification data, but does not enforce/require scanning based on items.
