QuickBooks Pro and POS and Godaddy Shopping Cart and a little boutique in Boulder

[01/03/2009]  As individual applications, the GoDaddy Shopping Cart, the QuickBooks Pro accounting software, the QuickBooks Point of Sale system all work very well. I think they might all work together, if you start from day one with all of them and a clean slate --no transactions and zero balances, and then begin to build from there. The problems we have encountered have been in the integration of the programs. We started with QuickBooks Point of Sale and a small brick and mortar retail clothing boutique. We tried to follow the arcane instructions about entering our inventory into POS and giving unique names to all our merchandise and then to coordinate with QuickBooks Pro our transactions, but fouled up from early in the game the coordination of the two programs and have not recovered from the "garbage in garbage out" syndrome over the year and a half we have been working with POS and QuickBooks Pro. We got a GoDaddy website and a shopping cart and tried to tie those into the store operation, but have not succeeded there, in spite of our efforts to make all of it work together. None of this is to imply that the programs cannot work together, but they will only do so with a great deal more work than is advertised. QuickBooks Point of sale is pretty straight forward, except as regards the entry of new merchandise into the system. QuickBooks Pro is an excellent accounting system, but in conjunction with Point of Sale, everything has to be entered perfectly to let QuickBooks Pro function with an accuracy. The GoDaddy Shopping Cart, while very plain and unimaginative in its appearance and presentation, might work as a way to show and sell your merchandise, but there is nothing simple or intuitive about the process of tying your GoDaddy Shopping Cart to either QuickBooks Pro or Point of Sale. We have invested many hours and some reasonably talented professional help to get nothing very useful from our efforts to make all three programs work together. Be aware that there is a great deal of work involved with making these programs into a coherently operating system, and that it is likely to cost you a significant amount of time and money to get your purchasing, retail sales, accounting and online presence functional.

[12/27/2008]  We have been using this product for a year, with great frustration. GoDaddy seems to think the only customers that matter are in the US, so expect lots of phone orders from people outside of the US who want to buy your products. QuickBooks integration is limited -- the only thing that comes across is summary data. You can get to it one order at a time on-screen, but getting it out as a report is impossible. We got on-line with an e-commerce solution very quickly, but with no practical way to pull out detail data on 1000+ orders, short of 2.5 weeks of copy and paste.
