[12/13/2003]  I am an accountant and I need to track my time. I use an iPAQ PDA. I had to have a bit of support when setting up but I got what I needed easily by phone. It is a 2 step process to get into QuickBooks 2003 or 2004 but it is so easy. I really recommend this product for anyone that has to track their time. After all they let you try it before you buy it. No more tracking it in a day timer and then entering it when you get back to the office.

[05/02/2003]  I have been using the product on PocketPC now for about 6 months, without problems at all. It installed on my IPAQ 3870 without problems, and runs fine. It meets my needs for recording time for a number of customers and projects, and ties in neatly with the way I have these customers and projects set up in QuickBooks.

My only gripe is that it does not sync as part of ActiveSync, but starts a sync separately as soon as the PDA is put into the cradle. This can take a while to run as well. It would also be neat to have a reporting utility at the desktop that allows you to report on start/stop times for individual tasks as well as total amounts of time.

[03/30/2003]  (This review refers to versions 2.0b for QuickBooks 2002/03)

In short, the concept of this program is outstanding, and as far as I got, the integration seems to be very good with QuickBooks 2002, saving several steps. Unfortunately there are implementation problems that ultimately rendered the program unusable on my HandSpring Visor Deluxe (8 MB).

Desktop applications
-----------------------
Documentation is sparse. Two desktop applications are used to handle communications between Palm Sync and your QuickBooks data file: namely, Admin and Report.

"Admin" accesses the QB data file and lets you select the customer/jobs, items, and classes you want to send to the Palm. Overall it worked well, though clicking the "Add" button for the "Customer" list sometimes added customers I hadn't selected. And don't forget to select both a "Timerkeeper" (user) and a "Device" from the remaining two lists (even if there is only one entry in each list), or when you click "Save" no data will be sent to the Palm conduit. It took me several attempts to stumble across this very simple step. A warning dialog explaining this would sure be nice.

The other desktop application, "Report," allows you to review your handheld data after a sync, but before importing it directly into your QuickBooks data file. Nice idea -- though I didn't actually try it because of trouble with the handheld application (see below). And again, don't forget to select a timekeeper from the list or the program won't show you any records.

Handheld app
----------------
Here's where I ran into a dead end. The program miscalculates time radically on my Visor Deluxe by about 3x. That was a showstopper for me (in a bad sense) and I didn't bother exploring much further.

A couple other more minor gripes: It looks like boundaries of some fields overlap slightly, and the help button disappears immediately after launch, never to be seen again. But the program is well laid out, and I was sorely disappointed not to be able to use it.

I give the program concept 5 stars, but the implementation on my Visor in this version is unacceptable. Check it out after the author has fixed this problem -- or perhaps it will work as is on a different handheld.
