[08/11/2011]  Who knew that accidentally removing restrictions when an Accountants Copy was out, would cause so much pain. Having exhausted several other avenues and being no closer to a solution, we had over 1,100 changed transactions in an open Accountants copy. It didn’t look good, until I found Karl’s software. We simply had our accountant convert her copy to a live file, and then transferred only the new stuff in from our company file. It only took a few minutes, with most of the process involving switching between the two files. Fortunately, we had a very simple set up, and at the time was only really using the check register. Karl’s videos were very helpful in setting up the process, and making sure we didn’t miss any steps, and he immediately responded to an email before we started the process, with some tips and references. He saved us a ton of time, money and headache. I highly recommend this software for anyone in a similar situation!

Don't start a new file from an old file with out this tool

[08/06/2011]  I purchased the data transfer and the beginning balance transfer utilities. I had an 800 meg file that was corrupt and the built in QuickBooks utilities could not clean up the corruption. I decided to create a new file and bring over 2 years of history. Karl’s tools require Microsoft Access to run. If you do not have Microsoft Access, he provides a link on his site to the Microsoft web site were you can download a run time version of the 2007 version for free. I first used the data transfer to get the list over, then beginning balance to bring over open AR and AP in detail, GL trial balance entry in summary form, then back to data transfer to bring over 2 years of transactions. I ran frequent income and balance sheet statements during the process and they always balanced. I had some issues transferring data because my item and customer\job list were corrupt. I emailed Karl and received prompt response that helped me solve the problem. Karl has made the transfer utility so easy to use by having buttons labeled pass 1, 2, 3, 4 so the data is brought over in the right order. I can not emphasize enough that you watch the great training videos on his site before using his tools. The reports after the import are great because they tell you what transactions (with date, amount, reference #, customer\job or vendor name) did not transfer and why so you can easily fix the problem and enter the data. Some helpful hits on using the tools: in the source file resort your lists, verify and rebuild your data if you can, have a backup of the source file, make sure you are using the tool on the machine that the data files are located on, more ram and a faster machine will make the process run faster. I also made frequent backups of the new file between steps in case I had to go back and do a step over again, which came in handy when I wanted to do an import again after creating the missing jobs.

[03/09/2011]  First, Karl Irvin offers amazing customer service. Fast responce to email for help. This program work great for synching all new entries from one computer to the next. The only fault would be if you forget to actually perform the synch. Awesome. I had 2 different versions for different year QB and it simply does exactly what it is supposed to. No more Back up on one computer, make sure nobody did anything on other computer and the restore files every day. This sychs all new invoices, or any files whether or not somebody work on either computer. BEST APP out there

Data Transfer Utility and Beginning Balnce Utility

[02/10/2011]  I inherited a very large file that was beyond Quickbooks Data Services and had to get the file compressed and repaired while retaining a few years of data. These utilities did the job with ease and when I ran into a problem (not related to the utilities but the file) Karl Irvin went above and beyond the call of duty and worked for a few weeks to help me resolve the problem. I highly recommend these applications.
