[12/23/2008] Our professional environmental consulting firm was struggling with integrating our timesheet hourly data with our QuickBooks files because we were creating over 100 invoices each month. All of our staff work from their homes in five states. Big Time offered an approach for integrating the hourly data with our QuickBooks files in a way that provided a critical QA/AC step before integration. During initial steps to implement Big Time on a company-wide scale, our staff found minor glitches in the software and what impressed us the most was the technical services by Edison's Attic to resolve the problems quickly and in all cases, individually. Big Time offers a sound method for tracking staff performance and the "Notes" function is extremely helpful in knowing what are people are working on. We intend to renew Big Time because we recognize its value for our company's performance.

[06/22/2008] We are a small HRM consulting firm and unfortunately we did not have a pleasant experience with it despite a reasonable level of BigTime support. Because of the time differences and no Aussie support this was difficult. After several months attempting to get it to consistently integrate with our two customer levels and Aussie QuickBooks, we gave up and found a much simpler web solution that at least downloads time consistently. And we have reverted to QuickBooks to process the invoices to Aussie requirements. Also beware your credit card is debited at the end of the trial whether or not you have agreed that the trial has been satisfactory.

[01/24/2008] We love Big Time! Love how it communicates with QuickBooks… We can easily do payroll and our client billings from our time entry postings. It’s a dream! We used to have to submit time estimates for payroll using an excel document and there was a lot of unaccounted for project time as well re-keying into QuickBooks so that my project P & L's could be accurate. Now, payroll submission is a breeze and client invoicing is clear as can be! We can even write notes in Big Time for the specific tasks that were accomplished on the project, which help with any billing inquiry.
Our project billings are accurate and it keeps the employees honest and hard-working!
We also had a custom report created for our productions meetings and it works perfect and keeps everyone on track!
We have also had the occasion to contact support both in online chat & by telephone. We found the support team to be extremely knowledgeable and eager to help and solve issues.

[11/14/2007] As part of our strategic planning, one of our action plans was to change from a billing and time system we have used for the last seven years to one that will really meet our needs. After researching over 50 software options that claimed to integrate with QuickBooks, Bigtime is the only software that was versatile enough to meet all our interface and integration criteria.
We put an implementation plan in place so our conversion from another application to Bigtime went smoothly and I don’t know why but I was amazed the first time I saw our data in Bigtime and it all made sense!
Right out of the gate (the day after the conversion) it was time to bill for the previous month. There were a few glitches which are to be expected, that were quickly resolved. The staff loves Bigtime because it makes entering time so easy and because it is web based it can done from anywhere. The Project Managers who are responsible for billing love it because it has been customized for us and makes life so much easier down to generating management reports they depend on. I am the administrator and I love it because if I need anything help is only an email away.

[11/11/2007] We are a small IT company; we do a combination of support and projects. This looked like a great fit for us, but the reality has fallen short. We gave up on this system in less than three months.
Reporting is NOT real-time; a major issue for us because it wasted our time as we waited for reports to run. We were unable to get the cross-project reporting information we needed without customizations (extra cost). Also if you do not leave someone logged into the server at all times (a security no-no) you will receive a variety of errors and be unable to produce reports. There are other smaller items but these were our major issues.
I will say the QuickBooks integration is quite good, and the interface, overall, is unintimidating and fairly easy to follow. The newest timesheet options incorporate AJAX technology, which further enhances ease of use.
Our experience with support was inconsistent--sometimes we heard from them, sometimes we didn't. We requested escalation to management and that never happened either. We've received no follow-up since then and still have outstanding issues.
Ultimately, we gave up and are focusing our efforts on a replacement system instead. This has been a painful lesson in lost productivity and wasted time.

[09/06/2007] Back in 2006, our company had an increasingly far-flung staff of consultants, but we tracked time and expenses using cumbersome methods involving faxed-in spreadsheets. The HR and Finance departments could just barely keep up, and we knew that if we wanted the company to continue growing, we needed to move to a reliable, scalable, web-based system.
Enter the BigTime application from Edison's Attic. The flexibility of BigTime's internal data structures enabled us to configure the software to "look like the business", and to reflect all of our project groups and their activities. We then executed a phased roll-out of timesheet tracking to 100+ staffers. BigTime readily absorbed the requirements and computing load of each new group.
Subsequently, we activated the BigTime expense tracking modules -- and now they are used by all employees who travel, much to the relief of the supervisors and HR people involved in the expense-approval process.
As our company continues to grow, BigTime serves us well as a strategically enabling technology. And because the expansion of the workforce has so broadened the task of disseminating important documents such as employee handbooks, PTO requests, and so on, we plan to activate the software's Library functionality later this year.

From an administrative perspective the synching to QuickBooks Online has been SO easy. Our custom invoices look great and our A/R visibility is the best it has ever been. Paying expenses is so much easier and faster than in the past.
Our employees have been very happy with the ease of time and expense entry.
Where we have had challenges, we have been able to make quick adjustments ourselves and the support team at Edison's Attic has been very responsive to our concerns.

[04/02/2007] We were still using Excel sheets as timesheets and for invoicing purposes when we finally hit the wall. Our agency had grown too much and too quickly and we needed to implement a bookkeeping and timesheet system as quickly as possible. We chose QuickBooks (without timesheet) and therefore required a timesheet tool that would integrate with QuickBooks. We decided on BigTime because we can host it ourselves and the interfaces of the software were easiest to navigate among the programs we evaluated. Our staff work remotely in the community with clients, so the interface of their timesheet is their connection to "the office". We also needed a timesheet application that would allow us to add lengthy notes in a convenient manner to each timesheet entry. We are extremely pleased with how well we were able to customize BT to suit our needs as a small agency. We are now using not only the timesheet features, but also the estimates features to track pre-approved hours for our contracts, the entire invoicing 'suite' (which is saving us hours every month), the library to store documents online and the array of available reports. The program is extremely versatile, and the tech support has been excellent in helping us navigate and implement the features as needed. Overall we're very happy with our decision, and we can only recommend the program.

[01/10/2007] The approach we took in picking a solution that would work with our existing QuickBooks software was to find a solution that would give us real time employee time tracking, job cost analysis, job progress tracking, and worldwide accessibility. After reviewing over 15 applications listed on the Intuit site we decided on Big Time because it met all of our needs and offered a hosted solution as well.
Big Time has made our life easier; we are able to implement the functions as we need them and as our staff grows more comfortable using the application. The less "computer skills" an employee had the easier it seemed for them to pick up on how to use Big Time.
Support of the product and our hosted setup has been excellent. The free tutorial online classes they offer on specific functions of the application have been very valuable. So far I have been through 2 product updates, each one improving on the previous release, it is nice to see that they listen to their users and have implemented their suggestions.
So far Big Time has lived up to my expectations, I would definitely recommend this product to anyone.

[12/08/2006] If you use QuickBooks Online stay away from this software. I have had this for 3 entire months now and I am on a first name basis with their support team. Their team is very nice but no one ever wants to be on a first name basis with software support. I don't even have enough room to tell you all the problems I have had with this software. Just believe me when I say don't waste $900 on this. You would have a better chance winning the lottery than having this thing work for you consistently without problems. The reports are way too limited. You have to be a genius to create custom report or they charge you a fee to do it for you. If you do estimates this isn't a friendly program for them and syncing with QuickBooks Online just doesn't work the same way it must with the desktop version. Because 9 times out of 10 supports answer for my question never works the first time. We usually spend hours trying to figure it out if they even can. Sorry to be a downer but this is not a good solution for Online users.

We did an exhaustive search for a portal product that allowed our users and client vendors to enter time/expenses via a website while maintaining tightly integrated QuickBooks 2006 Enterprise and SQL services. After a brief capabilities overview from the Edison’s Attic sales team, we purchased BigTime with faith that the application would work as advertised. Within a day of our purchase we had users in NY, Chicago, and Portland all entering timesheet data via a web site. The ease of use, simplicity of installation, thorough documentation, and top shelf support (with remote session sharing) made this entire engagement an immediate success. The ROI on this product is measured in weeks and the automation of time/expense synchronization with QuickBooks will allow a 25 person advertising agency to save over $35K annually by eliminating the “double entry” of client job related activities.

[04/03/2006] My firm's been using BigTime for three years, and we've seen a lot of updates and improvements to the system in that time. Our owners started using the system before many QuickBooks Advisors knew about it, and now we're seeing our own accountant start to prescribe BigTime to his customers who struggle with managing people and projects.
I decided to come back now and write a review because we just downloaded the most recent update (they publish updates about 4 times every year) and we're all excited about yet another set of new features that we can roll out to our users this month. They added Safari support about a year ago (big for us since lots of us use MAC) and have been steadily improving their capabilities in that browser ever since.
Our firm owner's agree that it's the best investment in technology we've made, so we're passing on our positive recommendation to anyone else who's struggling with a growing company like ours.
BigTime's support is fantastic, and the system let us get up and running quickly (it took us a day to get our initial users logging time) and see an immediate return on our investment (the more time/expenses we capture, the more we are able to bill -- even on fixed fee customers who are CONSTANTLY asking us to do work that's outside of our initial bid). They even have FREE weekly web seminars for training new customers (we've had some turnover in accounting, so that's been really helpful recently).
Check it out. You'll be amazed (even 3 years later) how worthwhile the investment was.

[04/02/2006] I'm the accounting person at a 10-person design firm on the west coast and we've been using BigTime for about 12 months.
In that time, their support team has been really helpful - getting us up and running and helping us figure out which reports we need to use to manage our day-to-day. They even helped us create a customized invoice that our customers love! They also added support for both Safari for the MAC and FireFox browsers, so our techies and design folks love it.
Right now, we're mostly using the system for entering time and expenses and budgets, but there are a ton of other features in the system that we're going to start to integrate this year. As we get bigger, the system continues to find new ways to help us manage -- and the free online seminars they run every week are a really great resource for figuring out "what else we could/should be doing."
I can't speak for other industries, but for designers--I don't think there's a better QuickBooks solution out there!

Selecting Big Time brought structure to our operation in the form of being a stationary target - one which addresses our needs. Bigtime was a great alternative, from the easy to use graphical interface to the linage with QuickBooks accounting systems.
The support for the past year has been great! Even with errors caused by our not learning the subtleties of the system, the support staff has been prompt and patient. If you are looking for a solution for a small business, this should definitely be at the top of your list!

Business processes and relationships are quite a bit different in a nonprofit than in a for profit business, as anyone who has tried to use QuickBooks to run a nonprofit knows. We were attracted to BigTime because it was the only affordable product we could find that dealt with the budgeting of time and not just the tracking of time. It took a while to figure out how to apply BigTime to our unique nonprofit situation, but we were able to do it successfully. Once it is set up, it’s quite easy to use from the end user's point of view. The product works smoothly, the tech support people are friendly and quite helpful. They also seem to be steadily making significant upgrades with each update, which means this solid foundation is getting even better as time goes on.

We had surpassed the ability to collect time in excel and manually enter into QuickBooks and dreamed of a web-based time capture system that was simple to use and effectively integrated to QuickBooks. Bigtime was a great fit. Like any package we needed to make some adjustments but it does the job well for us.
The bonus is that it can do much more for us so we started rolling out sales and pipeline management, approvals for timesheets by project managers and now we're working on expense reports and invoicing. We'll need help from the Bigtime team to support the Canadian sales tax system but I wouldn't expect this to be a show stopper!

With BigTime, we capture it all. It's not the easiest to use software product out there but then again it has to be many things to many people - to providers of all manner of different types of services, billing time in all kinds of ways. For the money, the functionality that it provides can't be beat.

The user interface was not intuitive and the administration of the app was very difficult. I wouldn't buy this program if I were you. On the upside, the support people tried hard and were very nice. [03/19/2004] Our company chose BigTime for two main reasons: (1) its integration with QuickBooks and (2) because it is web based. Our consultants are scattered around the country and we needed a reliable system for them to report their time and expenses. BigTime has proven to be the perfect solution. Our consultants found that entering time and expenses into the program were very straight forward and self-explanatory. The best part of BigTime, however, is the outstanding live support we receive. In this day of recorded messages, it is refreshing to have a real person to talk with when you have a question. I have not encountered any other technical support that is so patient, responsive and pleasant!

[03/06/2004] BigTime was a perfect fit for our 35-person architectural/engineering firm. We had already tried one of the "desktop" applications that claim to integrate with QuickBooks and it was just too small to fit our requirements. When we found BigTime, we found a full-featured system that let us track time, work codes, labor codes, project status, capacity and more. Its standard reporting filled in the gaps left by QuickBooks on job costing, and it's helped us stay in control as we grow. Now, we're able to learn from successful projects and get our new clients off on the right track.
I would caution other buyers not to assume that all QuickBooks packages are created equal. I wish we'd found BigTime earlier; it would have saved me a huge amount of time and frustration.

Most of these recs are focused on the business user, so I wanted to log back in and give the BigTime guys a technical thumbs-up. We just connected BigTime to our Microsoft-CRM instance (and our call center program) and it works flawlessly. BigTime support was extremely helpful, and we used one of their consultants to help jump-start our effort.
We thought we were buying a solid "engine" when we did our initial technical analysis of BigTime. 14 months of experience has proven that initial assumption correct. We do software for a living, so we know good work when we see it.

[10/28/2003] BigTime is really the answer to all problems! Our Firm had such difficulties w/ another program and absolutely no tech support what-so-ever! With BigTime, my employees can easily see the budgets on our jobs, print out their own reports, and submit their own expenses instead of it being a huge time consuming event for the accounting department at the end of the month. The Tech Support that we have received with this program is second to none! I am very impressed with turn around time in Tech Support and the many features that the program offers (half of which we haven't even tried yet). This system is a definite "Must Have"!

I decided to come back now and write a review because I just figured out how much the program has added to our planning process. We're in an industry that's moving from retainer to "time and materials" billing, and I used to DREAD client calls when they said they were thinking of switching to hourly. Now - I know that we can often make MORE money by switching to T&M!
BigTime has really changed the way I manage the company. Give it a try. You're likely to look up a year from now and want to write this same testimonial!

[08/19/2003] We switched to BigTime from another (un-named) product in the marketplace. We made the switch to BigTime because the integration with QuickBooks is HANDS DOWN the best we could find.
We’re an agency with 20 people and literally hundreds of jobs and sub-jobs, so we needed a system that could handle our job structure. Not only did BigTime make it easy to enter time and expenses against all those specific jobs, the program automatically configured our project teams, imported our old data from QuickBooks (so we didn’t have to start from ground zero), and even gave us a better way to break up our budgets!
I also agree with everyone else that their customer service is amazing! They sat with us all afternoon when we first installed…answering questions about QuickBooks AND about BigTime. Definitely give this product a try.

[08/06/2003] I am really impressed with how flexible BigTime is and how easy it was to install and integrate into our company.
I don’t think that I have ever purchased any software program that was as easy to get up and running. Plus, when we had a question Edison’s Attic support staff was terrific.
I really believe that it has enabled me and my management team to focus more on managing and planning, rather than administrative issues. Finally, I think that it is giving us a very non-intrusive way to see the productivity and profitability of each our staff member.
I have often searched for integrated packages that I could adapt to my business the way QuickBooks does and I found it with BigTime.
We now have a simple solution to improve our time tracking, project status, reporting and billing all rolled into one.

We just hook up to the system through our browser and log time against any of the account teams we work on. PLUS - we see how much time we have budgeted for the current month and where we stand versus that budget.
BigTime is also extremely cost effective and has really improved our overall productivity. It's the ideal solution for any service oriented business. BigTime has already paid for itself many times over.

[11/12/2002] We've grown a lot over the past year, and we really needed a system that would let us start to keep more "formal" track of our people, accounts, etc. Not only did BigTime deliver on that need, it gave us a great "industry wrapper" as well.
That means the system came right out of the box talking like a PR firm expects to hear it talk. It knew what budget categories we'd probably want to use, it knew that we billed most of our accounts on retainer, it even knew what we called the various "team members" ... it basically eliminated the training/installation component which makes systems like this so hard to get up and running.
Took us about a month to get everyone here using the system, and we even had groups who started using it "ahead of schedule" because they saw how useful it was for others!

[11/11/2002] The more we use BigTime, the easier it is for me to have "budget" conversations with my clients. I know which accounts I could switch from retainer to T&M and not lose money, and that alone is worth the price of the system.
Plus, I'm convinced that BigTime's enabled me to bill an extra 5-10 hours each month and that means my ROI time-frame was about 3 weeks.
Final point: we are already using QuickBooks, Outlook, Access, Word - all these systems that BigTime works with, and that made getting my staff up and running on the system EXTREMELY SIMPLE.

[10/22/2002] We've been using BigTime for about 6 months now, and it's really been great!
Our people think the timesheet is EASY to use (important, because it means less headache GETTING THEM TO USE IT), our managers love the budgeting features and we're excited about getting a feel for where we stand in any given month BEFORE the end of the month rolls around.
You absolutely can't beat the price, and they've done a great job making sure that the system is robust enough for mid-sized firms without having TOO MUCH (so training is easy).
It took us about a month to really start to use it, and I'd suggest having a 'test group' use it first before you roll out to the entire firm.
