[09/14/2009] Before Fishbowl we tracked inventory using Excel. With 6 people making changes the Excel sheet was often outdated. This led to much confusion on what was needed, what was ordered and what was going out.
Fishbowl fixed this for us and now gives us accurate inventory information. Serial number traking has also made our inventory much more accurate.
We have been using Fishbowl for almost 2 years now and have had much more accurate inventory. We know what we need to order, what is coming in and what is going out.

[06/30/2009] I have had major problems so far and ready to axe the software. This software is very generic and doesn't work right in our specific business. It was a complete waste of money and implementation time. The integration with QB was not accurate. Updates required high level IT staff. The bar coding requires expensive equipment, implementation time, and didn't work right. Lots of other integration is missing from the software.

Part of our business requires inventory tracking, storage and fulfillment so it is essential we are able to pull information at any given time about any item or order. The reporting feature in Fishbowl makes this so quick and easy and our clients love the fact Fishbowl allows us to offer them monthly activity reports in many different styles.
The ability and the ease of being able to integrate Fishbowl with QuickBooks for billing and vendor payments is a BIG plus.
Personally, the best thing about Fishbowl is the tech support staff. They really know their stuff!

Our company evaluated about half a dozen different inventory management systems for features, support, ease of operation, price, etc. Fishbowl was the hands down winner, and remains the champion. User interface is very intuitive, and easy to teach to various users.
Additional features such as POS, shipping carrier integration, QuickBooks accounting integration, and remote user access, make Fishbowl more valuable than systems costing $50K or more.
Support staff is exemplary! Responsive, knowledgeable, friendly, patient, and professional. Could not ask for more.
No, this is not a commercial for Fishbowl. Just sharing my experience and my opinion.

[02/10/2009] At first I was quite intimidated when I started using Fishbowl- within a week, I felt the ease of the software, very user friendly, the best feature for me is when I am doing repetitive transactions, the program "memorizes" what I am doing and brings me to the same screen for different sales order or customers, Fishbowl has great live support as well as on-line, and they actually use the customers input when implementing upgrades.

[02/04/2009] We have a small facility (7-8 employees) that manufacturers custom transformers. Prior to Fishbowl, we didn't have a cohesive system for tracking our Sales Orders and Work Orders. We were working from QuickBooks, another inventory program and a manual excel spread sheet to track our orders and our Work in Process. FishBowl has eliminated the need for double and triple entry of information and integrates well with QuickBooks. Like any other program, it does take a little time to become fully versed in the program, but is well worth the time in the long run. This program is an exceptional value for the small business on a tight budget!

This product is user friendly and customer support is great. If I contact them via phone/emails, customer support reps respond immediately. The support staff is very helpful and usually solves our problems within an hour or two of the time we call or write. If we do happen to have a bigger problem, they will work on it until there is a solution. They are always looking for ways to improve their product and have taken a couple of our suggestions and made them part of later releases. Christina, Lance, Jason, Craig, Whitney, Skyler, and Taylor have been great to work with. I would recommend this product to any small company that wants a tighter grasp of their inventory.

[10/10/2008] I would first like to introduce myself. My name is Karl Tielman. I’ve been doing POS since 1994 and do system integration and FoxPro programming as my main business.
Two years back I was approached by “Dovester Company” that on that time were using SBT software as their main warehouse software, to implement a Total system that would integrate their five (5) retail stores with the head company where they receive their containers with goods for exporting and distribute to their stores.
After a lot of searching and evaluating different software on the internet, we finally met miraculously the fishbowl inventory site. It was the Software we were looking for.
When we went through all their features, especially the feature that you can export and import via .CSV files and that it will integrate with QuickBooks. We knew we had a winner.
So first thing we did was to download the software and applied for VAR training which was completed successfully. The second thing was to understand all the files that were in SBT (no documentation), create programs and procedures for how to import them in Fishbowl. I can now say that thanks to our knowledge of FoxPro and now also a little SQL the whole operation is fully automated.
The retail stores use Microbiz Software (FoxPro) so their purchase orders are converted in .CSV files via a small program and emailed to the head office – where they are imported in Fishbowl as a Sales order – Sent to be picked and afterwards are exported again in .CSV format to the stores where they are imported in their PO receive ready to be received.
And all the while the relevant information is exported daily to QuickBooks.
Only in the beginning we needed staff support, they are all excellent in their knowledge and form a great team. A special thanks to all for their great support.
So to finalize I can say we are very impressed with Fishbowl, it covers just about anything you may need to do. We don’t have any complaints and are truly satisfied with Fishbowl.

From the very beginning, starting with you, the knowledge, expertise and professionalism of your company has been nothing short of amazing. I remember describing my vision to you of what we wanted for our business. You provided the overview of that vision, answered all of our questions, concerns and made yourself readily available for any additional information that we would need.
When we originally purchased Fishbowl, we were looking at a two month time line for set up, testing, and implementation. Due to landing a major national account we needed to shorten that time-line to one month. My 1st initial call from Fishbowl lead me through my 1st assignment, my trainer was understanding, knowledgeable, helpful, polite, and empathetic to our situation. I experienced that same thing time after time, and at one point thought every tech on the training team knew me personally. It is obvious that your company believes in empowering their employees, and the old saying that knowledge is power, could not be more true. I have also used the go to meeting website many times and again, your techs are patient, kind, understanding, there has not been one instance that the person I was speaking with did not have the answer. Even when I set up my training for specific topics, and due to a change, or challenge that I had in another area, they went quickly to the other topics, without a problem and were able to help get me through. In one situation and one time only, I called in to support and explained to the person who answered that my IT person was sitting here ($80.00 an hour) and I just needed a quick answer. She moved me up in the ques, we received the information we needed and my IT person was on his way. (Saving us $$$$)
Setting up a new business has many challenges and many stressful times, I can honestly say that your techs..Skyler, Damon, Jason, Christina , Frances ..just to name a few, made my days less stressful and knowing that I would have a friendly, helpful, knowledgeable person call me back with desperately needed answers was one less thing I had to worry about.
I am still learning and know I have more to learn, however, I again wanted to let you know how very impressed I am with every facet of your organization.

The reality is that we tried to implement Fishbowl twice and it was an expensive experience. It does not allow for multiple sales tax vendors, link numerous jobs to one contractor, or make it easy to integrate with QuickBooks. We never received the report that we paid for. We even had a Fishbowl Advisor come in and it still didn't work.

But today I had one of your technical support staff answer my call for help. I was trying to integrate UPS World Ship into FishBowl. Lucas Miller I feel went above and beyond to help me. The call was not a quick call and Lucas never made me feel rushed and conveyed through his actions and words that he really cared about my situation.

[04/21/2008] We've been using Fishbowl Inventory for over a year now so I feel qualified to give a long term opinion on the software.
There are several ongoing issues:
1. Documentation is VERY lacking. For example, when we needed to update the program in a major way, from one version to another that required changing accounting methods from Average to FIFO, there was NO documentation AT ALL! We were given the general idea via chat and phone: just export from the old version, install the new one and import to the new version. If only it were that easy! That's just one example of the lack of documentation. I was told over a year ago they'd finally hired someone to write for them full time - but have yet to see ANY new documentation during that time.
2. Updates to the program break the program itself. A recent example we were having is that Cost of Goods Sold stopped exporting to QuickBooks. We were asked to update to the most recent version to fix this issue. While this was not the fix for that issue, that's always the first thing we are asked about if we have any problems with the program. Help is generally discouraged until we update. However, we shy away from updating because of reports from other users that show how many NEW problems are created. But because of the COGS issue, we upgraded. As a result - we are no longer able to print price tags from the program. Yep! They accidentally broke that feature. So - such a critical thing you'd think they'd fix quickly? Right? Nope. Just wait a few months for the new update to come out. (And what other feature will that update break we wonder?)
Just how is it good customer service to break a vital part of the program and then tell your customers it won't work until the next update and since they just did an update, that won't be for at least another month and a half!?!
These are just 2 examples of the ongoing frustration we have with this software but we are so far in money-wise, we have to stick with it.

Fishbowl is extremely detailed on the product reports, sales reports, product images, your own part number along with as many reference part numbers as you need etc.
If you have a customer who needs your company product catalog the Fishbowl Inventory system enables you to produce your catalog in a PDF format in seconds. But, most of all their customer service reps are great at what they do! Anthony Mann for example~ This young man has the expertise that any company would love to have as a member of their team. He has helped me get my company running basically off the floor with Fishbowl. He is great with designing custom catalogs and takes the time to truly help with customer needs. Fishbowl is truly a great product to help run a company. The format, the look of the system and how easy it is to use is simply very desirable and obtainable through Fishbowl Inventory.

When we switched we were having major inventory issues and our system was an impediment to growth. Being in medical devices we needed a system that allowed for point-to-point tracking, but also would be easy enough to not cause a bottleneck in one department. Fishbowl is far and away a better product than what we were using previously.

[01/04/2008] For batch food processors who export and store the finished product in multiple ways (display box, shipper, etc.), Fishbowl IS NOT FOR YOU! For each flavor we produce, Fishbowl requires at least 15 minutes of data entry. This means that to execute this system, not only does the inventory control manager need to have a high level of IT skill, but must also spend a very significant amount of time on data entry. For every production run we have to create between 7 to 14 work orders. I have spent over 30 hours on set-up and fully understand its limitations. Set-up takes so long, that the 30 day free trial is not long enough to evaluate.

Fishbowl has allowed us to track, locate and monitor our inventory immediately. What would normally take hours to do by hand, takes minutes in Fishbowl. I am able to easily track what purchases I have made, run reports on my inventory and even track customer transactions with ease.
Having fishbowl is not only advantageous internally, but on the customer side as well. I can generate multiple professional quotes for customers, check if what they need is in stock, all while creating an invaluable database for our records.
It is worth every penny and more. I would have been lost in paperwork, if it was not for Fishbowl.

[10/03/2007] My major complaint with FishBowl is that it does NOT export accurate information. My accounts reports and PNL's have not been accurate since I purchased FishBowl. QuickBooks has continually provided me with up to the minute accurate accounts reports since 1995 for budgeting, planning, growing the company, etc... up until I purchased FishBowl that is.
FishBowl program is easy enough to use and tech support is pretty good. I do think they need more staff. I wish I had purchased QuickBooks with multi-user instead of FishBowl.

FISHBOWL:
I’ve been doing logistics for approximately twenty years now and I have to frankly admit I have not found a more “user friendly” software program than Fishbowl!!! I jumped right into it, if you will and with questions of course, but managed to understand the process and or steps…When I did find myself stuck, I immediately would make “THE CALL” to customer support and with their assistance, PROBLEM SOLVED…
It’s only been several months now that I’ve been working with Fishbowl and from what I’ve seen so far this software indeed works well with my work flow and needs! I will be more than happy to take some time in the near future for another review.

[09/24/2007] I have extensive experience with Great Plains and Fishbowl and find that Fishbowl handles 95% of everything that Great Plains does when it comes to inventory, for a fraction of the pricing. Fishbowl is friendly to the end user in its layout, and simplifies the accounting aspects. When installing the program I would suggest a little front end professional help to get the install done correctly. It is not that the install is difficult but some front end experience will set you of on the best foot. The secret to a good install of software is to understand the software and the company before the installation so the process, procedures and data are set up correctly in the beginning.
I can not say enough on how smooth the data transfer between QuickBooks and Fishbowl is. The response time with new relevant updates and been great. Fishbowl has truly given QuickBooks the inventory prowess that a companies need to function with out spending a $100,000.00 on a big package.
Fishbowl truly delivers everything that they promise. The support staff is great and knows the software. They are responsive to the outside world request constantly improving the software with new features and updates. They have truly earned their gold seal from Intuit.

[08/23/2007] Fishbowl Inventory is a great(!) product, if you have a good amount of patience!
It is extremely powerful in what it can do, very flexible, etc.
There really is a need to have an add-on to QuickBooks to handle inventory, and FishBowl handles this quite well.
When I refer to needing patience...
Setup itself is fairly easy. There is a large learning curve for users, but this is expected. The problem (and I don't really blame the company), is that they have just come out with version 5.0, that is a bit buggy. To their credit, they have come out with two point releases so far that have cleared up some major issues. It's when you have issues that aren't resolved that you start having problems. Their support response time is horrid, but I can understand that for now; they are receiving tons of calls, emails, etc about issues, and also "How do I do this?" type questions.
A big caveat: If you intend to run Fishbowl on an actual server, you need to either have a user that's always logged on, or install Fishbowl as a service, and hope that it exports to QuickBooks when you need to. By default, Fishbowl will not export as a service, but if you get in touch with their support team, they will send directions on how to get it to export, most of the time :-)
Overall, this is a great product, the company needs to hire some more support and developers, but I don't think we could run as well without it!
FWIW, Fishbowl also forced us to clean up our practices a good bit as far as tracking, work orders, etc!

We have found support to be very good if a little slow. Lots of our issues did not appear until in a multi user environment and therefore trying the demo may not help. [07/27/2007] I am running the maintenance almost every other day because the export to QuickBooks function refuses to work. Recently the software has began to run extremely slow, it can take up to 3 or 4 minutes just to change screens, receiving and quick shipping even longer, I have had to give up the idea of running a VPN between our 2 locations because of the snails pace set by the software. A recent suggestion from tech support was to restart the server software whenever it started running slow! I don’t think any of this would be an issue had they thought of including a purge function, I am currently storing over 3 years of unneeded data, tech support suggests that I export my product and customer information, start a new company file, import the product and customer information and start from scratch, completely losing 100% of my history. I have never had to deal with a company that would suggest several solutions to a problem and hope that one would fix the problem.

[06/27/2007] I have been using Fishbowl for about 1 1/2 years. I have never ever worked on a computer system that had to do with Inventories. Since I have had Fishbowl, Our inventory has been right on. I found that learning Fishbowl was not that difficult. The hardest part that I had was not learning or working with Fishbowl was that the person at my work place set Fishbowl up. Well, she had in fact had set most of it up incorrect. Once I learned and had help from the Techs at Fishbowl, I was able to completely correct all the problems we had. And now thank the lord, everything is running smoothly. The techs that Fishbowl have are extremely helpful. I have never received such excellent service with any company I have work with before. There Techs are TOP NOTCH.

[12/22/2006] The only good think I can say about Fishbowl Inventory is that they have good tech support but other then that not much good can be said. There program is java based and runs really slow. After using the program for a year I have encountered around 50 bugs with the software. Everything is all over the place and you waste time going to module to module instead of having drill down capabilities. Editing reports yourself is a nightmare it is not for the novice or even advanced computer uses, make sure you know some MySQL. Invoice numbers are between the 2 systems will differ when exported the only way to keep them in order is manually or make sure you don’t do any ordering in QuickBooks and do not changing your numbering. Example would be if Invoice 4333 was sent to QuickBooks and you do not use 4334 for your next Invoice for whatever reason, lets say you used 4336 instead when that invoice gets transferred to QuickBooks it will come up in QuickBooks as 4334 not 4336. The list can keep going on and on but ill stop here. My advice is to keep on searching

[08/24/2006] We use Fishbowl to manage our inventory and integrate from our website to QuickBooks. It brought our processing time down from 3-5 minutes per order in QuickBooks to about 30 seconds in Fishbowl (about a 800% improvement!)
We had also reached the maximum number of customers in QuickBooks as well and Fishbowl let us have unlimited number of customers.
Managing inventory by location is also a powerful tool to have... previously we had items organized alphabetically and our warehouse staff had to basically have the inventory memorized... Not very scalable!
Fishbowl also does not deduct the inventory from your system until the order ships (not when the invoice is created, like QuickBooks). This helps keep track of things much better... a Real Pick, Pack , and Ship system!
It also is much easier to import and export data from Fishbowl, enabling you to more easily integrate other systems (like ecommerce sites, etc.) into Fishbowl.
The final great benefit is the ability to write custom reports... if you can imagine it, it can probably be done!

[06/16/2006] Fishbowl inventory is the perfect solution for inventory control at the right price. I have been using Fishbowl since its 2.2 version and just upgraded to its 4.0 version and I love it. It has a great variety of features like serial number, lot, expiration dates tracking. It also let you enter various vendors for one part with they specific part number and price. The integration with QuickBooks is easy to configure and will save you a lot time with no double entries. Process all the orders through fishbowl, pack, ship, and then export to QuickBooks and print the invoice, it's that easy. Before buying Fishbowl I tried other software and couldn’t find one like it for its price. Great product and will recommended to anybody that’s looking for the right inventory solution.

[05/11/2006] This software is good for any small business. It is easy to use and learn. The software is pretty flexible in that you can take a number of approaches when using it. It gives a lot of good reports that will help you ensure that your books are balanced. Examples are COGS reports and gross margins. Once you install this software, the inventory function on QuickBooks is no longer an issue. This being said, there are some setbacks. The most frustrating thing about using this software is how difficult it is to make up for mistakes. Once a purchase order or sales order is created and fulfilled in Fishbowl, there is no way to go back and correct it manually. When the data is exported to QuickBooks it puts the data in a lot of different areas to one mistake can easily mess up your books. That being said, their technical support is on top of constantly updating the software to meet their customer's needs. Overall, I would recommend this software to any small business looking for an inventory control solution. You get a lot for what you pay for.

We spent months searching and trying out various inventory products that would work with QuickBooks. All of them but one comes up short in many different areas. Fishbowl was the final program on our list and luckily, exactly what we were looking for. It addressed our bar-coding needs and made entering inventory and writing up sales orders a snap - saving us hours of time and of course money. Integration was very simple and straightforward. We have concluded that our company, as a Distributor for Lennox Hearth Products and handling thousands of inventory items, have paid for our investment in Fishbowl Inventory in less than 6 months time just in saved man hours alone. [05/18/2005] We have been using Fishbowl since the beginning of the year and we believe it to be a great investment. The money was worth it and the hours of our time put in was worth it. When you are dealing with a swing set manufacturer like ba adventures with as many parts as they have, you need some type of inventory management. Fishbowl was the answer. It is one stop shopping which today everyone loves to have. We can now keep track of all out parts and the cost which allows us to see how much money we have in inventory. We will also be able to run our inventory level down at the end of the year so we do not tie our money up with inventory. Fishbowl is very easy to use once you understand the basics. It is an easy process to write up an order and print out a invoice. In the past we wrote all our orders up by hand and had no way to keep track of all our valuable customers. The customer support with Fishbowl is great. We have been using Kevin for all our questions and answers and he is very knowledgeable and is always quick to respond and help us when we need it. The other great feature with Fishbowl is how nicely in works with quick books so out accountant will be happy at the end of the year.

[05/13/2005] As a manufacturing engineer for over 25 years, I have been in search of a reasonably priced ERP/MRP/etc. solution with robust features. My small business cannot afford large, overbearing G/L, A/P packages that pay little, if any, attention to the production process, especially inventory control.
Fishbowl changed ALL that. They provide wonderful features that many larger, much more expensive packages offer: Bill of Materials (with configurable option order entry capability), Automatic Work Order generation, Real time Inventory Controls, extensive Reporting capabilities, and they integrate right into QuickBooks.
Value is the name of the game with my small business, and Fishbowl scores a hole-in-one. Wonderfully attentive support staff, constant improvements based on customer feedback and a robust product - all at a great value. Highly recommended.

[04/22/2005] We added FishBowl and this was a huge solution to our problems. It is very user friendly and accurate. It doesn't allow a transaction to take place without proper inventory. We have five offices and each is responsible for counting their inventory. Fishbowl allows us to see how accurate each location is counting and helps us to better monitor inventory.
Creating sales orders is so fast and easy. I've saved so much time by using fishbowl. We love the new software and would highly recommend it to anybody with any type of inventory to be accountable for.

After an additional 20k in customization we still did not have a software solution to manage our inventory, needless to say we jettisoned our investment and reinvestigated the market. We demoed three different inventory management software packages and actually purchased the least expensive one...Fishbowl Inventory
Fishbowl has the most robust and technical sound solution for our needs. We have several locations with thousands of different products. We have found the technical support superb and the training thorough. We paid less than 10% for Fishbowl than what we did for our "nightmare" experience with the other enterprise solution.

As our needs have changed we have relied on Fishbowl to grow with us. We have not been disappointed. For the years prior to purchasing Fishbowl, we had purchased a much more expensive software package that did not service our needs. Fishbowl has serviced our needs and cost nearly 75% less than the software we used prior.

[12/20/2004] We are a medical equipment manufacturer. I have to manage 2000 inventory items. We have many bill of materials with sub bill of materials. This task is very easy with Fishbowl. Having inventory on hand to build our products is critical for our company. Fishbowl Inventory makes that task easy. [03/22/2004] We have over 1000 parts and 30 vendors to manage. Last year we tried to manage everything with periodic inventory counts, but it didn't give us the insight into the business that we needed to make the right decisions.
Fishbowl has been a lifesaver because we got it up and running quickly and within a week we were able to get key information out of the system such as product costs and inventory counts.
Before Fishbowl I felt like I didn't have a handle on what was going on with the business. Now I can plan and make good business decisions.

[02/10/2004] Fishbowl Inventory Control is the best inventory software solution for small to medium sized businesses using QuickBooks. I have been using Fishbowl for a year, and it has completely transformed the task of inventory control in my company. Fishbowl has several unique features that have helped make my inventory control an easy process.
The most unique feature of Fishbowl is called the configurator. The configurator makes it possible to have different types of items in a bill of materials. The types of items available are standard, variable, optional, and optional variable. Standard bill of material items are items that are always part of the bill of materials and are always used in the same quantity. Variable items are items that are always part of the bill of materials but the quantity may vary. Optional items are items that can be grouped into a list where you can choose one of the items from the list in a preset quantity. Optional variable items are a combination of variable and optional types. When an item is added to a Sales Order that has a bill of materials, which includes items other than the standard type, a configuration wizard walks you through the variable and optional components and allows you to customize the finished good for each customer.
Another important feature of Fishbowl is the ability to separately manage inventory in multiple locations. Fishbowl uses a hierarchy to represent your inventory storage. The highest level of control is a location group; next, locations are created within a location group; and finally, bins are created within locations. For each part, you can set unique reorder thresholds and quantities in multiple locations. You can also separate users by location groups, which means you can restrict employees to working within specific location groups. By doing so, a particular user will only have access to inventory in the location groups the user is assigned to. This filtering process works throughout the software.
I have had a few opportunities to work with the Fishbowl technical support team. They have been very helpful in working out all of my software issues. In each instance they were quick to respond, and they provided me with helpful solutions. I have seen a continual effort by Fishbowl to make improvements and add additional features to the software. Fishbowl’s technical support team helped make my transition into using Fishbowl simple. I was able to take advantage of database importing to save countless hours of data input to get up and running.
Fishbowl’s best feature is its ease of use. Fishbowl was wisely developed to mirror all of the logical steps in business. From purchasing to sales, to packaging and shipping your products, Fishbowl is a full featured inventory control and sales software package. My employees have been able to adopt Fishbowl in their daily routine without a large amount of training. I would recommend Fishbowl to anyone using QuickBooks for their accounting who feels the need for improved inventory control.
