He explained the issue and told me how to resolve it. When I presented him with a few other issues he was right on it and helped me untill all the issues were complete. [12/09/2011]  We switched to Fishbowl around 4 months ago from Quickbooks Enterprise due to the need for better inventory control. The setup was straightforward and technical support spent as much time as needed to help us understand the differences between the 2 types of software. The more I learned about the operation the better I liked it. You can keep track of product locations with multiple locations for the same product. You can also perform disassembly to put parts in inventory or manufacture from parts to create products. Another nice feature is the ability to group parts together as kits. The best feature I have found is tech support does respond when I am trying to figure something new out and have a question.

The tech support team remoted into our server and worked on clearing all of the errors for several hours until it was fixed. Surprisingly diligent! These guys give great support.

[09/29/2011]  We implemented Fishbowl into two of our entities about 1 year ago. We have had very positive results. Most notably, it has allowed us to organize our parts department and streamline all of our future purchases by knowing exactly what we have on hand at all times. From an accounting standpoint, it has allowed us to monitor our inventory levels as we approach year-end and make the necessary modifications to minimize our tax liability. Another nice feature that we have benefited from is the ability to customize the software to accomodate any special needs. In our case, Fishbowl technicians were able to create drop down boxes in one of the modules that allows us to track a tax credit available thru the state we are incorporated in. Without this custom file, we would be forced to manually track the credit....hours of time saving and more accurate. The initial set up of the product was done by a Fishbowl representative who spent 3 days on site to ensure that we were comfortable with going live. Following his departure, he made himself very accessible for the first few weeks to help us thru any start-up issues. From there, we have utilized the on-line chat function for easy to correct issues that occassionally come up. Anything more complex can be handled by a technician over the phone or via a screen share. To date, we have resolved any and all issues thru one of the above options. Overall, we have had a very positive experience with Fishbowl. It can be used in very simple ways or in more complex situations. The level of effort you put into it will be proportionate to what you get out of it.

[09/28/2011]  Although you have to be patient when you're switching over, as it is a new platform, and your employees will fight you; once you make the switch, your employees won't want to go back. We have warehouses in multiple states, and employees spread all over the place. Getting the Fishbowl client to connect to the server remotely was literally the easiest part. Make sure you have a good internet connection, because there's nothing Fishbowl can do to make that problem go away. We tested about 5 other inventory management systems ranging in price from $1k to $50k, and ultimately went with Fishbowl. We're coming up on the 1 year mark, and I'd say it has definitely been the best investment of the year. Make sure and take the time to train everyone well, and make a quick cheat sheet for the newbies, and you'll see quick success.

[09/22/2011]  Fishbowl Has the framework down, but it's lacking some key capabilities which would make it the perfect tool. For example: -ad-hoc reporting. Need advanced programming skills currently. -tracking your vendors shipments to your customers. No way to record the postal tracking number. -pretty kludgy interface for manufacturing/assembly. -can't upload or even link file attachments, emails, websites, etc. -could do so much more with the custom fields! -incorrectly consolidates postings to Quickbooks. Makes a big mess out of some bills and invoices. To name a few. But overall it's a good, balanced program which I recommend to others. There's a great team behind it so it's only going to get better.

[09/19/2011]  We have never been so disappointed in a product or in Customer Service after spending thousands of dollars. We tried for 4 months to make Fishbowl work for our Company and it was a disaster. Fishbowl is complicated, not user-friendly and difficult to navigate. Our salesmen complained it took them twice as long to record a sales order/invoice as before. Not only was the sales and purchasing complicated, but the accounting side of the program was even worse. Our bookkeeper never knew if she should be looking for something in Quickbooks or Fishbowl. The main frustration I had with Fishbowl was the inability to void or delete a transaction. We had many practice transactions in the beginning and many mistakes along the way, but not even an Administrator could fix them or deleted them. Once the detail carried to Quickbooks, it was final. Our salesmen were told to only work in Fishbowl, but they could not even see a Customer Balance there. If a customer wanted to pay their Bill, it became an investigative process. Thank you. There are some handy links within the tabs that are now available, but I still seem to encounter some of the same problems as before. Specifically, I am unable to add shipping to the bill when I am reconciling items that have already been used on MOs or shipped out. Technical support of Fishbowl is generally excellent. Although it can sometimes be difficult to reach a technical agent, once you do, the issues are usually handled fairly quickly.

[07/16/2011]  The Fishbowl inventory package is a very well-rounded solution, enabling small corporations operate in professional manner as larger corporations do. Great user interface, easy to navigate application, and many well-thought out features. A major differentiatior for us in the selection process was the robust API support it had out of the box - made for quick & easy integration with our other existing applications (beyond QuickBooks). Once our data migration plan was finalized, the production cutover from the legacy app was literally an over-the-weekend process - including end-user training. As an Operator, it was arguably the easiest implementation of my career. The on-site trainer (Colby) was as smart as they come - very astute about business solutions, outside of the Fishbowl app he was training on. The quick warehousing user-training sessions we had allowed us to focus more on testing other FB app features to tackle newer business challenges. It was awesome. Only recommendation to the Fishbowl Marketing/Dev crew: The Firebird DB struggles a bit on our 40k+ Part/Product master. Create a performance step-up solution for customers who are already licensed for MS-SQL. For better performance this back-end support is a must. All in all, I highly recommend this solution to any small-to-medium corporation. Whether you're a start-up company or one trying to get out of an old legacy app, this is the right fit for your business!

Installing and setting up the program was easier than most, but still we had some small issues. However the support that was given was excellent and no matter how small or large the problem was, we had a very helpful and wonderful team to give the help we needed. As we go forward, we will need more help as we were a bit stingy on purchasing training time, but if you are smart and purchase enough training hours, you will have no problems. Our team is the greatest, and even though we now know each other by first names, they are still smiling and ever so willing to help. Wonderful product

[06/06/2011]  As a current Fishbowl user, I am disheartened to report that our experiences with the company have been poor. -The product is usable but is far from the intuitive design and execution that QB users are accustomed to. -Customer Support is poor at best. The Fishbowl Tech support system is call-back based. Call in and speak to a non-descript, generic voicemail to request a callback. You will not be able to hold for support, nor will the voicemail indicate that your call has been received or correctly routed. Many times the callback does not come. Call back and begin again. It can take a week to answer the most basic of questions. This is an extremely frustrating process and is significantly substandard in the tech field. -Paid custom reports are required for reporting that is standard on most competitive products.

Although Fishbowl is a great inventory product it had to be altered considerably to work for us. We had to break off our relationship with our consultant and were left with only the Fishbowl support team to help us. They have been excellent. Chade is great to work with and very understanding of technically illiteracy. I will say that the response time is not always quick and it makes no sense that you have to speak to someone and leave a voice mail but they do a good job when they meet with you.

[05/23/2011]  So far in the process of installation, configuration and implementation of the Fishbowl product, I rate the product above average in functionality and very high in value. Technical support has been better via chat or email than by voice, only because of timing of the return calls for voice. The onsite training was by far the best I have ever seen and an exceptional value. Installation is simple and straightforward and access to the program and data works well via local workstation or with terminal sessions. The integration with Quickbooks is as seamless and easy to implement as any I have seen. I would like to see a one-button solution for moving a sales order from issued to the Manufacturing Order and Work Order process, based on a set of rules. I would also like to see a more comprehensive and integrated Cycle Count process built-in. Overall, I rate this a 4.5 out of 5.

[05/19/2011]  FishBowl has given us the ability to finally track and maintain our inventory. What I like about FB is it sets in place the disciplines to manage your inventory. Unlike QB you can't ship what you don't have. You receive you reconcile and you finish. Your parts go in the right location. You pick for an order after pick it goes to ship. You can easily move inventory. You can give each employee individual rights. We had very few issues with installation. But we were very prepared. Our data base was right our inventories were correct our customer files were right our vendors were right. We set up copies of FB database and QB database so our employees could learn how to use by seeing our parts our customers and vendors. The issues we struggled with FB support was quick with a call back and walked us through the fix or remotely logged in to fix an issue. All in all a very smooth integration. I also love the live chat feature. The support is not based in India I didn't struggle to understand what I was being asked or told. We are a small business and this has made a difference. Over the last year FB has made the product more robust and the Tech support is even better. Great product Great value and Ease of use.

[03/22/2011]  We used this program for two years before giving up on it last year. Three of my sharper employees went to multi-day training seminars in Utah; we were well educated and capable users. In fact, we discovered a number of bugs that were fixed in future releases. As noted in other reviews, it is a work in progress and you should understand that going in. Lots of features? Yes. Refined and ready for the average user? No. Join the forums and read which limitations may affect you. All that said, I actually like the people in the company and believe that someday they will make Fishbowl a very good program.... it might be worth buying it today and waiting for the maturity that should be there in a couple of years. ... Also learned not to trust a Quick Books Pro Adviser's review of products - they don't have sufficient knowledge to hold an informed opinion.

Yearly Maintenance fees to fix known bugs

[12/17/2010]  Fishbowl Inventory has a slew of known bugs. When you buy the software, you are not buying a complete product. Bug fixes are only provided if you keep paying them yearly maintenance fees. Every other software maker provides fixes to their bugs without making their customers pay several thousand dollars a year to fix them. We are heavily invested in time and money with the software but will continue to look for an alternative to switch to. Many of the standard reports do not work correctly. For example, not loading, not accurately adding things up, etc. To create new reports will require paying someone several hundred dollars. Similar software makes creating new reports very easy. The software is slow and the more users you get, the slower it becomes. This is a known issue that they can't seem to overcome.

Particularly find the component or "kit" feature valuable since a majority of our equipment is build to order or custom build. Fishbowl allows us to track or configure multiple machine configurations and track the historical pricing of each component. Multiple vendors can be assigned to each purchase part. Multiple pricing levels for each product for sale can also be established.

[10/18/2010]  After nearly three years we are finally ditching Fishbowl for a competing product (I'm not allowed to name it here). As we grew from 1 to 8 employees Fishbowl was less and less able to serve our needs. While the interface is extremely well designed from an end-user's point of view, the software just isn't "big" enough for us now. Here's 10 reasons why: 1) Business logic cannot be input into Fishbowl. Instead we were relying on a growing employee handbook and flowcharts tacked to cubicle walls. We were able to configure our new software to guide users through the proper steps and procedures specific to our company which has prevented countless mistakes. We don't have to rely on manual checklists anymore. 2) Invoicing and bills. Just wait until your biggest customer returns a drop shipped order and then asks to apply the credit towards several new orders. Good luck straightening out that mess in Fishbowl! 3) Stability. It's unnerving when your most important software ceases to function at 10am on a Monday. Worse, each upgrade release tended to change some important feature that we depended on, be it a report that would suddenly start calculating different numbers, or a unit conversion being handled differently. 4) Performance. Our IT consultant was constantly frustrated by this one. Performance is slow when the database is accessed. We have a quad core server with 8gb ram and Fishbowl is the only thing running. Our network is 1000 megabit. Basically there are certain things you just don't even try doing because you know they'll never complete. Some of the most important reports, like the one showing you what's on backorder, take minutes to load. During this time you can't do anything else. Anytime you access quantities of information it's a waiting game. We've had Fishbowl's tech support people look at this several times and they'd always tell us to wait for the next version. 5) No usable multi-warehouse support. You can't connect to the server through a VPN. It is unbearably unstable and slow. Our IT guy advised us that this issue would be quite difficult for Fishbowl's programmers to fix. Because of this, we were having to email pick tickets and packing lists to the other warehouse. The employees there would then have copy-paste the addresses into their Worldship and email us the tracking numbers so we could copy-past them into Fishbowl. 6) Fishbowl wasn't adding the features we needed. We would get an "enhancement number" and that's the last we'd hear. After a year or so we'd ask again and they'd give us a new number. Still nothing. 7) Integration with other software. There are only a few add-ons for Fishbowl, and they're not cheap. Nor do they work that well. There's just not enough demand I guess. 8) Reporting. iReports?!?! Nobody should have to choose between paying $400 or learning to compile Java and SQL in order to add a calculated field to a report. With our new software I can create an entirely new report in about 20 minutes. No need to call in a programmer. 9) Shipper integration. Fishbowl can't process shipping internally, you have to use either UPS Worldship or Fedex Shipping Manager. Our new software does everything directly and also can work with USPS and freight carriers. We can give shipping quotes over the phone now. 10) Cost. Our new software is 2/3 the price per user.

[05/27/2010]  I have had to contact Fishbowl support (chat, email and phone) on several occasions as I was not the person that set up Fishbowl for our use. Everytime I had reason to contact support, the person that helped me was knowledgeable, pleasant, and extremely helpful. I really appreciate having such a great team to support us on our journey thru manufacturing and inventory.

[03/10/2010]  Fishbowl is the perfect product to integrate with QuickBooks to solve inventory tracking issues and to smooth out the purchasing-sales-shipping chain of events in any business. It is cost-efficient, user-friendly, simple, yet thorough. The user manual and technical support is absolutely outstanding. It has definitely helped us to operate more efficiently. I would definitely recommend it.

[03/09/2010]  I love Fishbowl! have used it now for 3 years and its so easy. It keeps accurate inventory and the support team is fantastic to work with. Its also very easy to update. I would recommend Fish Bowl to anyone who wants to keep their inventory accurate. It also runs great reports that help me with purchasing more product and keeping my employer updated on what we have and the value of what we have in stock.
