[01/22/2010] Fishbowl is the perfect example of over promise, under deliver. We are constantly told that our "enhancement request" are "great ideas", yet we have been waiting for years for features such as undo features, staged shipping and receiving (a PO or sales order does not arrive or leave all at once), support for multiple customer contacts per order, custom fields that actually are used by the software and not just for printed reports, and more. The interface has come a long way but still doesn't show us what we need. Reports are totally non-interactive and very complex to build. You must know Java and SQL to see how many dollars of product was lost to mishandling....or wait several weeks for a custom report. And just because you store key product details in a data field that you will be able to do anything with that data within the software. You can't sort sales orders by those that contain a certain part, link a purchase order to a sales order, email a packing slip for a drop-shipped order, or export tracking info to quickbooks. You can't do batch operations either, so if you want to reschedule 500 shipments because of unplanned downtime...too bad.
With the new release we have been plagued by random database error messages and stuck orders. The manufacturing edition seems to be little more than an inflexible grouping of work orders. Scheduling is still not something this software is capable of.
On the bright side, the reports can be inexpensively customized. There is a website connector, and tech support is very competent when they are available. Their voicemail does state that they are experiencing high volumes of calls and to please post your question on their public forum where some other user may help you out...or tell you to call support. New features ARE being implemented constantly, but usually it is nothing exciting. If they would just expand the interface by showing more columns things would be a lot better. Those improvements are officially on the back burner though...for now they're working on rewriting the mobile warehouse software so that it doesn't constantly freeze.
In summary, Fishbowl has the right idea and is getting better, but you may want to look at other platforms first. Right now it is only good for companies that do long have long internal lead times, only do light assembly with no concept of a workcenter, and do not want to automate any aspect of their logistics. Be sure to put the free demo through it's paces.

[01/21/2010] We did like Fishbowl initially, but they released a new version before it was ready. It has totally screwed up our business at year end, and they are overwhelmed with trying to help everyone sort out the mess they created. Their service used to be good, but not anymore because EVERY user is having problems which is taxing their customer support. If you don't already have Fishbowl, I would not recommend that you buy it. You will be sorry.

Every time we call their support line for help, they are nice but they tell us they need to look into the problem and will call us back. We never get the call back. I've had to leave several messages asking for help and can't even get a person to answer the phone or call back. We can't process orders and do our end of year inventory.

[12/09/2009] My company has been using this program for a little over 3 years. At the beginning it was a good solution for our inventory needs. Because it was still early in development it had a lot of bugs and was always glitching. Every new version that has come out (which is often) has gotten better and better. They have added a whole slew of options that really help you develop your business and change the way you do things. This program has gone from good to absolutely amazing in just a few short years.
My company has a main warehouse and sales reps located around the country with their individual inventories. Since the inventories are owned by the company we needed an accurate way to keep track of everything and this program does it with flying colors.
A great product with a great support staff that is always willing to help you out either over the phone or online they get the job done. If they can't then they can take control of your computer and fix it themselves!

[09/14/2009] Before Fishbowl we tracked inventory using Excel. With 6 people making changes the Excel sheet was often outdated. This led to much confusion on what was needed, what was ordered and what was going out.
Fishbowl fixed this for us and now gives us accurate inventory information. Serial number traking has also made our inventory much more accurate.
We have been using Fishbowl for almost 2 years now and have had much more accurate inventory. We know what we need to order, what is coming in and what is going out.

[06/30/2009] I have had major problems so far and ready to axe the software. This software is very generic and doesn't work right in our specific business. It was a complete waste of money and implementation time. The integration with QB was not accurate. Updates required high level IT staff. The bar coding requires expensive equipment, implementation time, and didn't work right. Lots of other integration is missing from the software.

Part of our business requires inventory tracking, storage and fulfillment so it is essential we are able to pull information at any given time about any item or order. The reporting feature in Fishbowl makes this so quick and easy and our clients love the fact Fishbowl allows us to offer them monthly activity reports in many different styles.
The ability and the ease of being able to integrate Fishbowl with QuickBooks for billing and vendor payments is a BIG plus.
Personally, the best thing about Fishbowl is the tech support staff. They really know their stuff!

Our company evaluated about half a dozen different inventory management systems for features, support, ease of operation, price, etc. Fishbowl was the hands down winner, and remains the champion. User interface is very intuitive, and easy to teach to various users.
Additional features such as POS, shipping carrier integration, QuickBooks accounting integration, and remote user access, make Fishbowl more valuable than systems costing $50K or more.
Support staff is exemplary! Responsive, knowledgeable, friendly, patient, and professional. Could not ask for more.
No, this is not a commercial for Fishbowl. Just sharing my experience and my opinion.

[02/04/2009] We have a small facility (7-8 employees) that manufacturers custom transformers. Prior to Fishbowl, we didn't have a cohesive system for tracking our Sales Orders and Work Orders. We were working from QuickBooks, another inventory program and a manual excel spread sheet to track our orders and our Work in Process. FishBowl has eliminated the need for double and triple entry of information and integrates well with QuickBooks. Like any other program, it does take a little time to become fully versed in the program, but is well worth the time in the long run. This program is an exceptional value for the small business on a tight budget!

This product is user friendly and customer support is great. If I contact them via phone/emails, customer support reps respond immediately. Once we signed on to Fishbowl there was an instant transformation within our company. We now know what is moving when it is moving and who it is going to. Importing and exporting data from Excel is a breeze. There are many help wizards that help in with the various setups. The programs are very intuitive and the PDF user manual is easy to navigate.

The support staff is very helpful and usually solves our problems within an hour or two of the time we call or write. If we do happen to have a bigger problem, they will work on it until there is a solution. They are always looking for ways to improve their product and have taken a couple of our suggestions and made them part of later releases. Christina, Lance, Jason, Craig, Whitney, Skyler, and Taylor have been great to work with. I would recommend this product to any small company that wants a tighter grasp of their inventory.

[10/10/2008] I would first like to introduce myself. My name is Karl Tielman. I’ve been doing POS since 1994 and do system integration and FoxPro programming as my main business.
Two years back I was approached by “Dovester Company” that on that time were using SBT software as their main warehouse software, to implement a Total system that would integrate their five (5) retail stores with the head company where they receive their containers with goods for exporting and distribute to their stores.
After a lot of searching and evaluating different software on the internet, we finally met miraculously the fishbowl inventory site. It was the Software we were looking for.
When we went through all their features, especially the feature that you can export and import via .CSV files and that it will integrate with QuickBooks. We knew we had a winner.
So first thing we did was to download the software and applied for VAR training which was completed successfully. The second thing was to understand all the files that were in SBT (no documentation), create programs and procedures for how to import them in Fishbowl. I can now say that thanks to our knowledge of FoxPro and now also a little SQL the whole operation is fully automated.
The retail stores use Microbiz Software (FoxPro) so their purchase orders are converted in .CSV files via a small program and emailed to the head office – where they are imported in Fishbowl as a Sales order – Sent to be picked and afterwards are exported again in .CSV format to the stores where they are imported in their PO receive ready to be received.
And all the while the relevant information is exported daily to QuickBooks.
Only in the beginning we needed staff support, they are all excellent in their knowledge and form a great team. A special thanks to all for their great support.
So to finalize I can say we are very impressed with Fishbowl, it covers just about anything you may need to do. We don’t have any complaints and are truly satisfied with Fishbowl.

Second, Fishbowl inventory has been a great tool in helping our company run as a smooth, well oiled, machine. Where seeming incompatibilities in work flow occurred, the staff at Fishbowl was eager to find a solution that worked.

From the very beginning, starting with you, the knowledge, expertise and professionalism of your company has been nothing short of amazing. I remember describing my vision to you of what we wanted for our business. You provided the overview of that vision, answered all of our questions, concerns and made yourself readily available for any additional information that we would need.
When we originally purchased Fishbowl, we were looking at a two month time line for set up, testing, and implementation. Due to landing a major national account we needed to shorten that time-line to one month. My 1st initial call from Fishbowl lead me through my 1st assignment, my trainer was understanding, knowledgeable, helpful, polite, and empathetic to our situation. I experienced that same thing time after time, and at one point thought every tech on the training team knew me personally. It is obvious that your company believes in empowering their employees, and the old saying that knowledge is power, could not be more true. I have also used the go to meeting website many times and again, your techs are patient, kind, understanding, there has not been one instance that the person I was speaking with did not have the answer. Even when I set up my training for specific topics, and due to a change, or challenge that I had in another area, they went quickly to the other topics, without a problem and were able to help get me through. In one situation and one time only, I called in to support and explained to the person who answered that my IT person was sitting here ($80.00 an hour) and I just needed a quick answer. She moved me up in the ques, we received the information we needed and my IT person was on his way. (Saving us $$$$)
Setting up a new business has many challenges and many stressful times, I can honestly say that your techs..Skyler, Damon, Jason, Christina , Frances ..just to name a few, made my days less stressful and knowing that I would have a friendly, helpful, knowledgeable person call me back with desperately needed answers was one less thing I had to worry about.
I am still learning and know I have more to learn, however, I again wanted to let you know how very impressed I am with every facet of your organization.

The reality is that we tried to implement Fishbowl twice and it was an expensive experience. It does not allow for multiple sales tax vendors, link numerous jobs to one contractor, or make it easy to integrate with QuickBooks. We never received the report that we paid for. We even had a Fishbowl Advisor come in and it still didn't work.

Your support staff has done an excellent job of supporting our company especially Adam in Training - who has always been there for us to train with Go To Meeting. But today I had one of your technical support staff answer my call for help. I was trying to integrate UPS World Ship into FishBowl. Lucas Miller I feel went above and beyond to help me. The call was not a quick call and Lucas never made me feel rushed and conveyed through his actions and words that he really cared about my situation.
With his determination and diligence, we have finally been able to get UPS and FishBowl to communicate. Thanks to Lucas and the entire FishBowl training and technical support staff.

I especially like the Monitor module which tracks inventory on hand and alerts me when inventory is too low.
Our only complaint is that monetary information is available to all users.

Features that did work before stopped working after the update. I would get answers that would be fixed in 3-4 weeks. I did not like that because we would get used to the reports and features and then bam update breaks them. We have to start all over with our reports or find new ones to use that were not the same.

[04/21/2008] We've been using Fishbowl Inventory for over a year now so I feel qualified to give a long term opinion on the software.
There are several ongoing issues:
1. Documentation is VERY lacking. For example, when we needed to update the program in a major way, from one version to another that required changing accounting methods from Average to FIFO, there was NO documentation AT ALL! We were given the general idea via chat and phone: just export from the old version, install the new one and import to the new version. If only it were that easy! That's just one example of the lack of documentation. I was told over a year ago they'd finally hired someone to write for them full time - but have yet to see ANY new documentation during that time.
2. Updates to the program break the program itself. A recent example we were having is that Cost of Goods Sold stopped exporting to QuickBooks. We were asked to update to the most recent version to fix this issue. While this was not the fix for that issue, that's always the first thing we are asked about if we have any problems with the program. Help is generally discouraged until we update. However, we shy away from updating because of reports from other users that show how many NEW problems are created. But because of the COGS issue, we upgraded. As a result - we are no longer able to print price tags from the program. Yep! They accidentally broke that feature. So - such a critical thing you'd think they'd fix quickly? Right? Nope. Just wait a few months for the new update to come out. (And what other feature will that update break we wonder?)
Just how is it good customer service to break a vital part of the program and then tell your customers it won't work until the next update and since they just did an update, that won't be for at least another month and a half!?!
These are just 2 examples of the ongoing frustration we have with this software but we are so far in money-wise, we have to stick with it.

Luke and Joshua were so helpful and patient with me, that I wanted to give them a good word on their behalf. If I remember their #s were 18 and 24. [02/12/2008] Fishbowl Inventory is quite an amazing inventory system. The user has so many options to choose to apply for their company needs. Fishbowl is extremely detailed on the product reports, sales reports, product images, your own part number along with as many reference part numbers as you need etc.
If you have a customer who needs your company product catalog the Fishbowl Inventory system enables you to produce your catalog in a PDF format in seconds.
