[01/18/2011]  After writing the previous review of Exact JobBOSS, I've come back to write a second because of how much the software has improved. For several months, we have been running JobBoss without a single issue. It integrates well with Quickbooks, and the new version hasn't left out any of the old features. If you're looking for reliable shop software I'd give JobBOSS a try.

[09/29/2010]  I started to use JobBoss when I was hired at a manufacturing company as an IT administrator. Jobboss is excellent for organizing information about materials and seeing jobs through. But, the software is extremely unreliable. I'd go as far as to say that the software does NOT WORK. It does not communicate properly with quickbooks, and the integration breaks constantly. I spend on average a full work day every week fixing integration issues. One minute it works, the next, it doesn't, and I know for a fact that this has happened in the majority of shops using the software. Putting this software on the market, and charging a horrible amount of money for it, and service, was IRRESPONSIBLE. Exact jobboss requires constant maintenance, tweaking, fixing, time, money. Look at any other job shop solution before you look at jobboss. In fact, use spreadsheets before you use jobboss. It is that bad.

[05/24/2010]  As a small manufacturing company we spent 6 months trying to implement this software with little to no success and have since given up on it completely. For starters, even after taking all the online tutorials I was still at a complete loss for how the system actually worked. The company lacked a fundamental how to guide. I suspect this was due to the overly complex software combined with their desire to make you open your wallet for either direct consulting or training. For someone who formerly spent 5+ years in the IT industry, this is simply unacceptable. Furthermore, even if you understood the complexities of the system it would take you days, if not weeks, to be up and running because they have no direct import tool. A $3000+ system has no easy way to import existing information about your suppliers, part data, etc. Their only import tool is an excel file running a visual basic script using an old version of excel. So if you have the latest version of office, it won't work. I had to manually input all company data because of this. Also don’t forget that they require premium versions of windows for both server and client! And even though their system requirements stated that Vista Business Edition would work, it didn’t! It refused to install on anything except Vista Ultimate. I can understand if the server would put up a fuss, but the clients. So in addition to the cost of the software you will likely have to pay an upgrade license for all systems running that software. Their requirements for windows 7 are the same, which is even more absurd since all windows 7 versions have the same install base, the serial number simply controls what features are unlocked. I suspect this is simply their way of limiting support to a smaller number of OS platforms. Once the system was finally up and running the bugs started to crop up. I would consistently get random errors, either user database or info database or God only knows errors. Half of these errors were not accurately documented on their support site. Support was rather helpful with these errors, but it still took me close to 40 hours of troubleshooting to solve all these errors. The system should have worked out of the box.
